Imagine that, a guy who makes grifball maps hanging out on a site dedicated to grifball. What are the odds? ;)

I believe we should start the selection process very soon. Bungie needs the better part of a month to prepare a playlist so we would need to have this in by the end of this month to have a playlist by the holidays.

I can't stress how important it is to have a holiday playlist up for Grifball. That is the time people are back at home relaxing with relatives, students are away from school, people who normally work 60 hour weeks are off and in need of a distraction. In other words prime XBL time. From my experience this is where we will collect the most XBL play hours, and the greatest number of individual IP's.

One of the reasons we have our own playlist is because we have a history of pulling in consistently high numbers, where other variants have failed to do so. Most don't know this but Bungie receives money from XBL for these numbers. Grifball is a small but important variant because unlike regular playlists, it pulls gamers away from other games, not just other Halo playlists.

We still may get some decent numbers among the regular Halo population, but no where near the numbers we would get from drawing new people in during the holiday break.

I suggest we do a "Round 1 winners" and pick one map from each category to set the standard and let builders know they need to move soon if they want in. A few days later a "Round 2 winners" and so on until the playlist is full.

I'm cool with making a push for the holidays as long as we truly have enough maps and gametypes that are up to matchmaking standards. It would be great to have a playlist by December, we just have to be positive it's not going to look like a rushed playlist.

If you'd like to spend a couple days going through maps, testing, picking out candidates and so forth, let me know and I'll be online.

Could start to make a rough draft spreadsheet for this. Have categories such as AA courts, nonAA courts and so on.We do have a good number of maps and could work on them a little more if needed to be matchmaking eligible! But I'm still confused on how the voting progress is going to work. Is its GrifballHub's decision or a combination of the AGLA and The Hub.

Concave was one of the first ones that I looked at and is definitely a favorite, you just need to make sure that you have an appropriate variant on it. For example, Concave without AAs would be awful and take forever.

Burnie left the entire process of putting together maps and gametypes up to us. The AGLA is not involved, however if a proper AGLA map and gametype come together soon enough, we would certainly include them in the playlist.

I've created a smaller version of Concave that works great with vanilla, it's in maps thread. :D

Did the maps ever get decided? I noticed MLG got their playlist up but no Grifball.

The grifball playlist may end up being delayed. We've been haggling over maps and gametypes with Bungie for a bit more than a month and now they've decided they don't have time right now to test anything. I haven't heard a word from them in more than a week now.

Trust me, we're trying to get grifball into matchmaking ASAP, but we're at the mercy of Bungie at this point.

Ah, well things like that happen.
But it's good to hear it is being worked on. I was poking around and I couldn't find any information on it so I was really confused. I hope Bungie can work something out soon, I'm going a bit crazy waiting xD

Yeh we've certainly been very hopeful that we could get it done this month, but the longer we go without hearing anything new, the lesser it seems that's possible :/

I know I'll certainly spend more time playing Reach than I currently do once we have a playlist.

I don't really see why they have to test anything. I mean... I know it's their game, but it's not their gametype. Oh well, I really hope that'll get worked out ASAP because I know I'll be playing so much more too.

They don't really have to test the gametype I don't think. I think it's more that they have to test out the maps we submitted to make sure there are no issues of any kind. Or maybe there secretly practicing so they don't get massacred when they play the playlist themselves. ;) <-- I highly doubt that. Yeah, I will definitely be playing Reach again once the playlist comes out. I hardly play anymore.

Maybe they are still trying to sort out the MLG issue. If something went wrong with the gravity while implementing Grifball into a playlist, it would deal a huge blow to Grifball. Perhaps Bungie knows that and doesn't want to see it happen. Just a theory.
