Nearly finished Mass Effect, now time to think about buying Mass Effect 2.

Would it have been worth saving the council in Mass Effect 1?

That's not the right question. With this game, it's about what your Shepherd values. If he thinks that they deserve to survive, that stability in leadership is important, and that they're working taking a few risks for then yes. If he is instead pissed at them for never really believing him, or has other priorities, then no it's not worth it.

That's good. I was glad to let them die. They were so annoying. Mass Effect 2 ordered from amazon. Should be getting it early next week.

Just tried the ME 3 demo. I tried ME 1 way back when and didn't like it. ME 3 is definitely better, but I still feel very clumsy in a fight. I don't like when 1 button does a lot (A in this case, running and ducking and rolling and jumping etc). Gears did that too and it drove me nuts.

I'm going to keep at it and see if it grows on me, though.

I was the same at first Goose. What class does everyone here play the most and prefer?

In Mass Effect 1 and 2, I was a Vanguard and enjoyed that class. But for 3, I switched it up and changed to an Infiltrator. That's what I enjoyed most playing as in the demo. The Vanguard tended to do more up-close shotgun/biotic charge work, whereas the Infiltrator did more sniping/stealthy stuff.

So what would you all suggest for someone like me, totally new to the series, interested in some fighting but definitely in the story, too. For example, I really liked the first level in the demo but didn't really enjoy the second demo level.

Totally recommend the game to you for one, and dos, the Asari Adept is amazing. You'd probably enjoy her. Not to mention you can freeze phantoms in their tracks ;)

Well for starters I would suggest playing through as 1. Infiltrator this way you don't have to get your hands too dirty and 2. play story mode.

What I love about the Mass Effect fighting is the variety it allows you to approach it with. You can use the power wheel to pause the combat whenever and play as slowly/tactically as you want. I usually pause at the beginning of most encounters and survey the battlefield. First I'll locate all the enemies, then classify them from most dangerous to least dangerous. From there, I can figure out my best move, whether that be focusing all my squad's power on one particular enemy, or perhaps pushing up one side for a better position, or even falling back to a more tactical position. From there, if the battle is easy enough, I play it in nearly real time, just using the powers I have mapped to certain buttons. Or if I can tell the battle is going to rough, I'll pause very often and constantly re-evaluate my position.

Whenever I die, it's normally because I moved up to quickly into a position with little cover or I've let them get around to my side/behind. Once I reload, I approach the battle completely differently and it's amazing how opposite things can turn out. I may have just died at a certain spot multiple times in a row, but I just try something new and I'll often end up winning taking little or no damage. I appreciate how differently each fight can play out depending on how you position yourself and how effectively you use you and your squadmates powers. I suppose you could argue that that's how most shooters work, but for seem reason I just really appreciate it in Mass Effect.
