You don't necessarily have to pay for a server unless it has too many people playing on it. Otherwise you just download the Minecraft server agent off their website.

Yeh but no-one will connect unless its through hamachi, u cant simply start the server then people join.

From what I've seen everyone has picked this up today

I'm not gonna get it for a little while, or at least until I see all my friends playing it and get jelly. I really wanna play the multiplayer. It might be a game I get to play for some leisure after raging at an impossible Trials Evo level.

My thoughts on the xbox version -


Pros - Its Minecraft, im a bit of a fanboy
Easy to set up multiplayer
Achievements!

Cons - Needs updating - badly
No sprint
Not very compatible multiplyer for playeers who dont have an open nat e.g. Even if someone
with open nat hosts, if the host changes mid game to someone with a non-open nat, people with restrictive nats start getting kicked randomly
start getting randomly kicked out of the game.

So yeh, its minecraft therefore it is fun, but as a person who has played a lot of minecraft on pc with mod support, texture packs ect. this is nothing too special. What i like about it is that its giving players who perhaps dont have the pc power to run minecraft well a chance at enjoying the game, for a first release on console its not all that bad though. To someone who hasn't played the game before or someone who has but wants to enjoy it with their friends without the hassle of setting up a multiplayer pc server I would definetly recommend it.

Some features I would like to see implemented in the future would definitely be the use of texture packs, skins, the ability to sprint, updates, multiplayer that isnt abusive to players with restrictive nats, and I dont exppect to see it anytime soon but mod support would be pretty cool. Even if it was dlc it would be great to see mojang working with the modders in the community to transfer some of the amazing stuff they do to the console version, the chances of this happening however are slim......

So if you like minecraft then go for it, but if no-one on your friends list is going to play it then stick to the pc version, I dont really see any potential to enjoy a single player game on the console version. But thats just me, if you havent played minecraft before then fair enough the singleplayer would be pretty enjoyable.
