Crab here, I know this is going to be blatantly copying Mallards article (which was a copy of Matt’s) but oh well. We all want to know how Division 1 of the EUGBL has been doing as well as Div 2.

Division 1 of this EUGBL has been a few old teams come back, some new teams and some teams that have been around for a while, but have never entered the EUGBL before. We’ve seen new players join old teams and old players join new teams. We’re at the end of the Division now, and we’re going into the playoffs stage, with 4 of the 6 teams in this Division going through, things are quite intense at the moment. Another lossless Division stage for JSG (No fun), showcases not much change at this stage of the competition, but things could go anyway from here on.

First: Johnson’s Salty Grifballs.

Ahh, the Salty Sensation. Of course I’d be first to talk about my old team. They’ve done well for themselves, as usual. With their standard roster of Muffin, Strangler and Kirsty; they welcome two new players in the form of ROTS Ben and Storm Hawks’ Alex. They’re a very strong squad so it was obvious that they were going to do well from the beginning. Going through into the group stages with a 10-0 record showcases how well they’ve done this season, and the fact that they’ve barely conceded any goals shows that there’s probably no stopping them anytime soon.

Best Player:

Well, it’d be hard for me not to choose the Muffin man himself for this position, he shows great performance and results in every game that he plays, and he finished on a +200 K/D as per usual. The Muffin is an annoying player to go against indeed, but we all love him.

Best Rookie:

That’s obviously Ben, for two reasons… One, because he’s the only rookie on the team and two, he’s the best rookie in the league.

Best Game:

JSG 7-2 TI, I was in the Xbox party during that game and it was intense for the beginning, it could’ve gone either way. It was a shame that TI let it go after JSG had won the game (scored 5).

Second: Team Impact.

Ahh, the good ole boys at TI… Good guys, great grifballers. They’ve had a fairly consistent roster over the last few EUGBL’s and have been here for quite some time and made a name for themselves. They ended this Division on an 8-2 record, only losing to JSG. As a team, they’ve all played very, very well and I can’t wait to see them back next season.

Best Player:

They’ve all played admirably this season, but I’d have to go with Sev. He’s made so much of an improvement over this last season it’s hardly surprising that he won the player of the season award.

Best Rookie:

I’m sure TI don’t have any rookies? Definitely none that played any games for them anyway.
Best Game: TI 5 – 4 Hellhound. On the good ole backburner, ey boys? Eh eh eh. A game that lasted almost an hour due to technical faults, the boys still managed to pull the opening win over Hellhound, a team we expected to be a one to watch this season.

Third: Sarge’s Angels.

I love a bit of SA personally. The teagues, trampy, funk, carkito, hawx… All the boys. SA are one of the longest running Grifball teams in the world, and the longest running EU one. They show great team work in every game they play, and good sportsmanship. You never get any raging after a game in the lobby from SA, ‘cause they’re just a fair team to play against and one of my personal favourites. SA finished on 5-5 and got their third place position based on GD, which I applaud them for.

Best Player:

Ooh, it’s so hard to choose. I’d have to say Funk, he always plays well in every game I’ve played against SA and he’s a tanking force to be reckoned with. I also give Carkito a side mention as he has played very well this season also.

Best Rookie:

Like TI, SA have only played their known players this season and haven’t recruited anyone knew (as far as I’m aware).

Best Game:

SA 6 – 3 ATR, against us. This win essentially got them into the third place position, and what a game it was. I enjoyed it thoroughly, even with the bad connection. Props to SA, and they played well, as usual.

Fourth: The A-Team Rejects.

My boys, we’re a new team of rookie/experienced players. There’s myself, Linxx and Paul who have all had seasons of experience between us. Also we have Penguin and Lizard, two new player who are eager to play Grifball. As a team, we’ve performed quite well and finished on a 5-5 record, only beaten by SA due to score difference. I’ve really enjoyed playing with ATR and I can’t wait for next season.

Best Player:

Me, not to sound egotistical or anything… But it’s all about the Crab.

Best Rookie:

Lizard, although he annoys the Hell out of me, It’s hard to deny how well he’s played this season, he’s progressed the most out of anybody I can think of.

Best Game:

ATR 7 – 2 Hellhound, one of my favourite games of the season. It started off really close, and then we just started taking through like machines. It was really enjoyable and all of our team went away from that game feeling like it was a job well done.

Fifth: Hellhound

Well, when it comes to Hellhound, it’s hard to tell who is and who hasn’t been on the team for a long period of time. They have so many players who get moved around all the time, I’m stuck. However, even with their 1-9 record, they still played very well in most games that they played. In the games we played against them, they were a very strong team, they just seemed to lose steam as the season went on.

Best Player:

Steelwing, he’s a great player all round. Whether he’s tanking or bomb carrying, you’ve got to watch out for Steel wing, he’s played great this season.

Best Rookie:

I want to say Black Vulcan, ‘cause he’s the only player I know from Hellhound who definitely is a rookie. Although his stats aren’t the best in the division, he’s still shown promise and has performed to the best of his ability in Hellhound’s later games.

Best Game:

Hellhound 5-4 KFC, although I wasn’t in the game… from the scoreline there, it was more than likely a close one. And snatched up Hellhound with their only official win for the season, so they must’ve been happy about that.

Sixth: Killer Fruity Crumpets.

Like ATR, KFC are a sort of compilation team. We have, Matt, Benny and some of the Badger Pokers (not to mention, Nick for the beginning of the season). Personally, KFC have been my favourite team to play against this season. Although their stats don’t show it as well as some other teams do, KFC have played very well this season and I give them respect for carrying on until the end, well done boys.

Best Player:

Matt, it’s always Matt for me, he’s a great player and he’s always playing to the best of his ability. He’s a great tank and I can’t wait to play against him next season. Also, a special shout out to Benny, who has also played very well this season.

Best Rookie:

Dawzyboi, although this isn’t his first season ever he has made a great improvement in this season. There’s been many times in this league when I’ve shouted “@#!? DAWZY” and that can only be a good thing (unless I was on his team, aha).

Best Game:

KFC 3-6 ATR, I don’t know if they’d agree with me… But, both of our games against KFC were bloody smashing. We were the only team who had the pleasure of playing against these guys twice, and I’m so glad we did.

I wish everyone best of luck in the playoffs, as I don’t need to provide the necessary links, as Mallard already took care of that. Well done on everyone’s performance in this EUGBL, and I’m hoping to see you all back next season.
