Collateral Damage was the runner-up for the AGLA FL09 Amateur League Championship. Captain Neomalkin and the always verbose Acniphyde43 took a few moments to talk about the championship series.
The First Game: What was it like?
Neomalkin – We were under pressure to get games done as fast as possible. Improbable couldn’t make it. So we started myself, Acniphyde43, PhLaShH and T7 shark, our back up. We quickly went down 4 -0. Honestly, I don’t remember a whole lot of the game. After they went up 4 -0, we were feeling despair. Then shark stopped moving and talking and we freaked out. We took a knee and he lagged out. We stopped the game and he didn’t get back on. About that time, Improbable actually got on and we put him in. We cleared it with the other team and just wanted to get the game done. We fought back from there. We pulled it back together and it was a great feeling. We still knew we had at least 1 more game to go.
For game two, you switched hosts. What happened?
Neomalkin- Surts3y was neutral host in first game. We agreed upon that the night before. Then before the game, Pac man said they had another great host, but we’d never heard of him or played on his host, but we said ok. We decided to use Surtesy the first game and their host for the second. However, the other host was unbelievably laggy. We figured that out during the host check and we wanted to go back to Surtesy. They made a substitute, took out delta force and put in dingle. Surtesy couldn’t pull over dingle. OneHawk talked to a very nice person named Goose who helped us out. Through trickery we were able to get Goose to pull neutral host and were finally able to get the game done.
Also during the game, Surtesy had been reporting all the goings on of the game in the Grifbi IRC, which wasn’t agreed to by us. We wanted to stream it, but scet didn’t show. If surtesy’d asked, I would have said ok, no big deal. He just didn’t say anything about it.
Tell me about Game 2.
Neomalkin: We were on Goose’s host. It wasn’t too kind to us. I’m not going to blame host, host didn’t lose us the game. We got out-tanked. The addition of Dingle Fritzer helped the other team, really picked up their tanking game. They were the better team second game. At 5 -2, since PhLaShH was under pressure since we had to, we let them score the last 2 to get the next game started.
Acniphyde43: Right.
What happened in Game 3 ?
Neomalkin: Looked a whole lot like game two.
Acniphyde43: Except for taking the knee part.
Neomalkin: PhLaShH did have to leave after they hit 5. If you look at the stats, they definitely had more kills.
Acniphyde43: They ate my face.
Neomalkin: They ate everyone’s face.
Acniphyde43: But mine’s pretty.
Neomalkin: They played a good game, we played a good game, I have no regrets.
In our last interview, you said Collateral Damage is breaking up. Is that still true?
Neomalkin: Collateral Damage is no more. After talking to Pacman and other people, there’s a lot of people… I decided to come back to Grifball. Given the situation, not having enough teams, I was like, yeah I’ll come back. I was talking to Onehawk, acniphyde43 and PhLaShH were there, then they had some players leave and they were in need. So, I joined Harmful if Swallowed. Hopefully my wife will understand.
Anything else you’d like to say?
Neomalkin: Thank you to all the people who tried to help us get NH for the games. Goose and Surts3y and Izzy. We had a lot of help . The Yups are good guys. They could have raised a stink about having to sub a player in the middle of the first game.
I wish that we didn’t have to rush it. Would have been nice to spread it out and not have to press PhLaShH’s scheduled. We were ordered to have it played by that night and by golly we got it played.
Why would you care if Surts3y was keeping us updated with the scores? That’s the second best thing to streaming for the community, sort of like a radio.
I was mainly annoyed that he didn’t ask. Plus apparently he was reporting some my so-call “quotes”. Those quotes are special moments in a game. THEY’RE PRIVATE. The End.
These in-person interviews are the best articles on this site, IMHO. The extra work you put into these really shows. It’s much better than the old “questionnaire” articles.
